It's probably not a component issue. More likely a short or open circuit on the input or output jacks. Or dirty jacks on the input, output or effects loop. Could also be a problem with your instrument cable, guitar jack, speaker cable, speaker or speaker conection.

I'd agree. Try a differnt cab and importantly a different speaker cord. And make suer to use a real speaker cord and not just a guitar cord for that.

When it is not working, is there zero sound from the speaker? or is ther still some background sound, a little hum or something?

When it is not working right, ball up your fist and whack the top of the amp hard. Does that wake it up? And when it is working, does whacking it make it stop or make it hesitate? This checks for loose connections.

        +1

But the proper technical term is "hit" or "slap"... Not "whack". It should also be noted that hitting (or "whacking") the amp IS something that most DIYers and novice builders can do as well as the pro's.

          Chuck:
Maybe up in the North West those terms are the norm, but I propose the term Enzo Thump, for use on this forum.

No no no, whack, as in your amp will swim with the fishes.

if you wanna get technical, use a rubber mallet.
