  • My gibson amp

    Hi.
I got this Gibson guitar amp, but the tone knob is barely working.
I love the tone and all but you know, i also love the opitunity to change it!
What to do ? Just change the old resistors with some fresh ones ?

    Old Gibson Amp

    An amp model might help.
I would think a fresh tone capacitor before a fresh resistor.

        Gibson GA40T

        Here is the schematic.
It looks like the tone control is weak from the get go.
        .0033 cap to ground!
In fact the whole amp looks geared towards weak bass.
You have to look at what the manufacturer was trying to accomplish.
Bass uses power. Bass needs a good speaker.
Maybe it was the zone musicians where in at the time of manufacture.
Can you advise what frequency your tone control does cut or boost.
Does changing the tone control do anything?
