  • Marshall DSL 2000?? SO confused!!

I am not technically savvy at ALL..I'm trying to get some information on my head(that I bought used). But the search is coming up empty!

I have a DSL 2000 Marshall head. NOT a JCM DSL 2000.. on the faceplate of the amp it says DSL2000..but it looks exactly like the JCM 2000 otherwise..and whenever I do an online search the JCM model comes up! ah!

the problem I am having is that more than once, while playing at a show(of course)...the amp just cuts out. I assummed it was a heat problem..because the next day when I turn it on again its fine..and it was really hot at the club both times it happened at a show..Sometimes instead of completely cutting out it looses its "gain" sound..it just plays clean. even with the gain turned all the way up. I have been told that its a problem with the "circuit board"..but no actual answers..i really love my sound and would like to fix it if I could..is this a common occurrence?? If someone could just point me in the right direction..even a good way of explaining this to someone I would be eternally greatful!!!!!!

    thanks in advance!!!

What does it call it on the serial number tag?

sounds like one of your 12ax7's has failed.

do all the 12ax7's go dark when the sound cuts out? If so, I've seen the DC heater supply for those preamp tubes loose it's supply voltage due to cold solder on the bridge rectifier on the main board.

You may also want to observe the tall output tubes (EL34) when it acts up.
Look for a difference in any of them.
You do not want red or lightening like scatter.

Are you using the 4/8 ohm speaker jacks or the 16 ohm jack? I'm guessing the 4/8 ohm jacks.
