  • Help for a complete new guy

Hello I have just come into possesion a a Garnet D90TR-2X10. It ays piper on the cabenit. I have asked on the vintage forum it it was worth fixing and was told that it was. Well I have little to know experiance with this stlye of electronics but do have the basic knowledge of electronics. Anyway when I got the amp home after aquiring it from this old feller at the recycling depot I pluged it in and got nothing. I checked the fuse and it was good so here I sit not knowing what to do next and not wanting to get electrocuted. ANy help would be awsome. Here are some pics.

    Amp test

#1: There are severe voltages in these amps. Be careful.
#2: Disconnect the speakers & measure the dc resistance of the voice coils (go across the speaker terminals)
Do NOT run the amp without a (good) speaker load!
#3: Do the tubes "light up"?
Other than that, with no experience on tube amps, I would recommend taking it to a tech.

Hi....I just acquired a Piper head Model P1001 TR and the chassis looks identical to yours with the exception that mine has 3-12ax7 and only 1-12au7 tubes but the same 6V6 set up,if you find a schematic I would love a copy as my unit sounds a little flat and a little low on volume.... Thanks Tim..... Port Coquitlam BC

Seems to be a nice piece of machinery. If your determent on tinker with it yourself you should start checking for voltages as P Bass said. Don't get zapped, it is not very pleasant! The question is what are you going to do with the measurements you get. Do you have the schematics?
In this forum everyone is entitled to my opinion.
