Popping/Crackling Blues Jr on Startup

My 2008 Blues Jr pops and crackles as the tubes warm up- quite loudly- then the problem goes away. The popping is so loud that I am worried it will damage the speaker. It does not matter whether or not the volume or reverb are turned up or down as I power the amp up. I've also noticed that one of the power tubes burns much hotter than the other. Someone else posted the same problem a while ago, but I do not think a definitive diagnosis was made (at least not on the forum). Has anyone else experienced this problem, and can anyone clue me in to what might be wrong?

the easiest thing to try is to swap the power tubes in the sockets...move the left tube into the right socket and viceversa.

does the same tube burn hotter in the new socket? or is the overheating happening to the new tube in the old socket?
