  • Line 6 Spider III 212 (75w x 2)

    Friends...

I see it's hard to find schematics for Line 6 amps. A friend has a Line 6 Spider III 212 (75w x 2) with one side not working. Without seeing it, my first guess would be the power amp module.

(The headphones also have signal on just one channel).

Does anyone know if these amps use the TDA7293 Audio Amp Modules?

    Thanks in advance, Tom
It's not just an amp, it's an adventure!

Hi Tom. Never seen a schematic but you have the sick guy on your bench, or will soon.
Just open it up, take a good look, and fortunately you still have the other working half to compare.
I only hope you do not have too much SMT in there.
    Good luck.
PS: post some pictures when you open it.

Tom, I have a sick Spider III in the shop that blew one of the TDA2050's and burned several components on the main board....been waiting to hear back from Loud Technologies if they even have a replacement board.

From what I was told by one rep there, they most likely don't have the parts for stock as they have been building stock on the Spider IV version...and then told to watch Ebay for a "parts" unit.

      Good luck!

        Line6 - Loud technologies?

Hi Gomez. Unfortunately I doubt they have a board available for a "small" line 6.
If it uses a TDA2050 I'm sure they used the circuit straight out of the datasheet, compare them side by side.
The chip and its auxiliary components are only a few parts.
Follow burnt tracks and rebuild with bare wire as needed.
Any EBay nonworking amp will probably have the same problem as yours.
            Good luck.

My notes say they use two TDA7293 chips. Open it up and check out.

Some Spider power amps follow the basic datasheet circuit but some have current feedback implemented in them so they have a low value resistor (e.g. 0.22 ohms) in series with the speaker and additional feedback path that samples voltage drop across that resistor. The resistor may be either on the amp side or on the ground side of speaker load. Otherwise the circuit is pretty standard for any OpAmp -like chip power amp.

I sort of remember that all higher power Line 6 amps have individual headphone amp sections, so the headphones are not driven by attenauted signal of the main power amp. Anyway, it's not an absolute rule so don't take my word for it.

OK..so I bought a Line 6 Two Twelve 2 X 50 watt with no output at all for $26. I could not locate a schematic. I did find an owners manual online. There is a reset proceedure for restoring factory presets. You hold several buttons down at the same time and power the unit up. I would do this first. It takes a minute and you take nothing apart. I did this and the amp works like new so I got a 100 watt amp for $26. You may have nothing wrong with the amp except the processor programming is bungled up. Of course you will lose all of his custom presets when you do this.
