  • Source for decent tremolo roach?

I've got a Super that needs a new bug; I used to get them from Hoffman but he doesn't have them anymore.

I got one from Antique, and it worked but it took the intensity on 10 to equal what the old (tired) unit did on 2. I emailed AES and they sent another...which is no better.

    Who sells one that *works*?

It is a neon bulb and a photocell, make your own.

What is wrong with the old one? You can cut it open. The bulb or photocell can be replaced. The common NE2 bulb works, and places like Mouser and Jameco sell photocells. If you are not happy with the range of the AES pne, experiment with various photocells until you find a range you like.

Sleeve the resilt in a piece of heat shrink and voila.

I've always built my own but when I went to reorder all my cds cells and neon bulbs, the damn cds cell part number was discontinued!!

I helped WeberVST develop theirs and after a few misfires, they finnally got a cds cell with decent properties and it seems to work OK.

They probably had only so many in the bin and you used them up.

Actually I found a page on the 'net (http://www.clarkhuckaby.com/fendervib.html) that discussed cutting up a Vactrol and using the cell in it...I gave it a shot and it works better than any off-the-shelf 'bug' I've ever heard.
