  • Dr.Z Z-28 Choke and transformer values?

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here knew what the Z28 choke and transformer ratings were. I know the power transformer is 300-0-300VAC but the rest is a blank.

Also if anyone could suggest replacement transformers and choke that would be great.

    Cheers

    Neill

The Z28 is a 22 watts two 6V6 amp with few preamp tubes (EF86 and 12AX7). Therefore the PT won't need more than 100ma on the HT winding. Plus maybe a decent bias winding of 50v@50ma or so. If the bias is tapped from the HT there should be around 150ma all in all.
I don't know how much value you put on the inductance of the choke, but I think a Fender choke of 50ma (@4henry) would do.
Those are all roughly estimated values.

If you don't find any specific info I can at least offer that after measuring a couple of Z OT's it seems that the designs are more akin to hi fi gear than many guitar amps. I'd guess 6600 primary for the OT with 6V6's and a choke that is at least highish in inductance.
