  • Vintage OR80 with standby switch on OT CT... change it?

I'm working on a '74 OR80 that I posted about a while back -- nasty arc, needed new sockets, etc. It's working well now.

Somebody who worked on this amp before (not me, not the client, not the client's old tech) put a standby switch in it. They drilled a new hole in the back, put a SPST toggle in it, and wired it directly to the CT of the output transformer, in series with the B+. So it only turns off the B+ on the plates, doesn't affect the screens or any of the rest of the supply.

How bad is it to have the full B+ on the screens and nothing on the plates? Does this stress the power tubes? If the guy wants to have mute functionality, should I maybe just change it to interrupt the screens like on many Peavey amps? Or I suppose I could put it in series with the HT fuse so that it's a "real" standby switch...
