And the last thing that has not been mentioned already is the heat sink
and you will see an aluminum bar between the heat sink and the chassis
when you take it apart the bar falls out...
when you reassemble the amp, coat all four mating surfaces with zinc grease
or other high efficiency heat sink compound, before assembly.
The original may not have used enough grease to assemble heat sink parts.
There may be air gaps that reduce the cooling, so make sure the air gaps are
eliminated when mating the parts back together.

yes there was a bar that fell out when i disassembled the chassis. there's an electronics supply store here in Calgary - will i likely be able to find the heat sink compound there? Or is it available at a more commercial retailer like Home Depot or Canadian Tire?

      Thanks

Electronics supply will have it. Put on a thin, evenly spread coating, on all the mating surfaces, to insure your heat dissipation. Get all the air gaps filled up with zinc compound.
No, not at home depot or the tire store.
After you tighten the screws, wipe the excess from the edges of the heat sink.
Pretty messy aye? That is my most UN-favorite part of working on that amp. My beloved "heat sink poop."
You can clean it off your hands with mechanic's hand cleaner gel. Have some of that stuff handy.
