Agree, the temperature revealing paint use on Groove Tube labels and some others is an indicator the tubes have been baking. Overheated tubes often show visual signs.
COntext is everything. Cold is not the same as cooler than...
Red hot and too cold to sound like anything are not the only options. We can come up with scenarios that result in some bad outcome, but the point was that no tube company or amp company is looking to have short tube life to increase tube sales.

Oh sure, some people modify the amp and like it even better when they can run it hotter, not all care, but either way, it sounded good enough to buy in that stock condition. Enzo, if they recommend cold bias, their tubes could gain (undeserved) reputation of sounding bad, that's maybe as bad as "short lived"?
