Hey all. I have a friends VHTG100-CL that has a nasty blown speaker sound on both channels. He told me it fell off his 4x12 cab and hit the deck. Was working 100% fine before the fall. Here's where I am so far:
Both channels have a distorted sound almost sounds like a blown speaker. All voltages seem fine on all tubes. Bias/plate current is good. Tap around with a sharpie and found nothing loose or intermittent. Nothing looks broken or loose inside. If I plug into the effects return/power amp in the sound is clear. I subbed all tubes. Cleaned all pots, sockets & jacks.
Tried a signal probe on the plates of V1, V2 & V3. I get a normal clear sound at all plates and on the cathode follower at V3. The effects send jack to another amp has the nasty distorted sound. I also tried a cable from effects send to the return. I do not have a scope at this time.
The amp functions 100% (all pots, switches, channel switching) and sounds strong except for the nasty blown speaker sound. The sound gets worse as you play the guitar harder. If you play guitar lightly it is less apparent.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!
