  • Fender Tonemaster

    Hi there,

i am wondering if it is normal for a Fender Tonemaster to get very hot. I mean very hot........i would not hold the on/off switch.

Even the coating on the bigger transformer is crackeling and peelling off.

I'm asking 'cause the amp i bought used as had modifications and i didn't know about. I found out about the mods when i opened the thing and found wires that have been cut out.

I does sound very good though.

    Thanks for your time

Without knowing exactly what kind of mods were done it's hard to say but it shouldn't be hot to the point where you can't touch the power or standby switch. Tubes in general run very hot but pushing the wattage to the limit can cause problems like these so it just depends. Do the plates on the power tubes have a red streak down them when playing.
