    When the amp is working properly you should be able to tell if the big "filter" caps aren't doing their job. Obvious problems like bulging ends, stuff leaking out, excessive hum or a short that causes other circuit problems are usually present if the caps are failing. On an amp that age with original filters I would inspect them very close. Actually, I'd probably just replace them. If the amp isn't giving you trouble and there are no physically obvious problems you can let it go for now and deal with it if/when something fails. I wouldn't, but you can. A lot of people do. I'm not in the camp that thinks really old filters are fine as long as they're working, but many here are.

      Thanks Chuck. Do you have a good source on the caps? I was thinking Tubes and More (AES). Maybe you ore someone else knows of a good cheap source. Quite a oxymoron there with good and cheap together!

        Nope. But I'd be interested also since I have a personal Marshall I need to recap (some day ) and educated info on what's good in 50/50 cans is hard to come by.
