Choke mod choked?

I put a Hammond choke (5h 100ohms 150ma.) in place of a 1k 3watt resistor in a Jet City JCA20h. I guess this is supposed to help clean up the dc b+. And maybe "open" the amp up ? Give it better bass response? Not what happened to me , it did the opposite. Kinda lost its mojo. anyone have ideas on why this may have happened? Should I try to find a choke that has 1k resistance? Is this a voltage drop difference?
