  • SVT lll pro fan again

Hey is the fan on these supposed to suck or blow?

This one is pulling air in, should it be blowing hot air out?

    Customer said it was overheating.

Been a while since I peered inside an SVT III, but I have seen a couple where the fan just plain quit. IIRC the fan attaches to one end of the heatsink fins, pulls air in the back and out the front. Lots of dust on the fan & sinks as you well know ... vacuum the whole thing out.

Even if the fan was reversed, I expect it still should work OK.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

      FULLY agree with cleaning.

That said, all amp fans I've ever seen blew air inside the cabinet or straight at the heatsink; IBM decision to go backwards (sucking air) was that they:
      a) wanted to ensure PSU cooling before anything else and
      2) since they were (correctly) worried about floating ambient fuzz, plus typical end user lack of interest or care in cleaning product innards meant that it was slightly better to go that way.

Otherwise the PSU would quickly be clogged with fuzz and lint, the internal parts being an excellent catching net.

        So it sucks, got it.

And of course I already cleaned it out and cleaned and lubed the fan.

Use a fair amount of lube if it sucks.
