  • Another day, another dead acoustic pickup

Well, not totally dead just the B string on a Line 6 Variaxxe.

It seems each saddle is a transducer with a wire coming out to a main strip fed to a couple quad opamps.

Upon removing the PC board strip the saddles are wired to the G string saddle fell off of its wire too.

Now it looks like there is some type of metal inside the saddle but insulated from it by some type of potted material.
A straight piece of wire fed up to meet the saddle makes a noise when touched but I can't get the two bad saddles to transmit vibration if I connect the wire directly to the metal inside the saddle or just have it sitting on the potted material.
This wire that runs through the bridge must be isolated from the bridge as the bridge itself is a medium resistance to the saddle/opamp input.

Seeing how I doubt anyone has messed around with these, I'll have to see if Line 6 sells the individual saddles or the bridge as a complete unit.

Seems this is a common problem.
Line 6 sells the individual saddles for $12.50"each.
