Soundcraft EFX8 vs heavy falling object

Hi all, had a small disaster today when a JBL powered speaker fell & bounced off the mixer then hit the floor...

Good news - did not hit Joanie as she walked by at that moment

Bad news - knocked off fader buttons on ch 2 & 3, snapped off the metal bit of ch 2 fader, willl have to replace ch 2 fader, yay...

Haven't had the courage to go in there yet, anyone been inside this mixer? Are the channel strips all separate boards or... ?

Highly unlikely. You almost certainly have one large board under the panel.

Hi Enzo, thanks for your prompt (although not very encouraging) reply...

Feeling a little stupid right now (a common occurance) as I was warned about the problem...

Has anyone been inside an EFX8 ?





Haven't even looked at the speaker, it feel about 6 feet & made a nice dent in the new hardwood floor...

Anyway, many kids & grandkids arriving soon - so that should cheer me up. :

Wondering now if that slider is generic or specific to the EFX8?

it was custom made for the maker, but still probably pretty generic. Whether Alps or Alpha or Noble or whoever, the sliders from each tend t have one sort of footprint. that is, some have the pins across the ends, while others have the pins along the sides near each end. it is very difficult to cram one type where another belongs. The value is usually printed on the side of the part, sometimes the bottom. So 10kA or whatever. Your channel sliders are no doubt mono, but there are stereo faders, like when there is one fader for both left and right - stereo. That brings us to length of travel. The length of the things are in more or less standard amounts like 60mm, 100mm or whatever. Then there is the shaft. It wants to be shaped like the others so it fits the existing knob. You may find one at Mouser or you may have to order it from SOundcraft.

What I often do if I need a new shaft assembly is find a slider of the same general type, dismantle it and take the slide from it and put it in the old body.

How many screws would it take to just open the thing and LOOk at what you are up against?

Looks like 60mm, mono of course. Apart from value, I get your point about footprint. Checking the Harmon site, 'parts' no mention of Soundcraft... hmm

How many screws? Probably not to many, just a bit overloaded with family & a new BMW K75RT restoration project - 'it never rains but it pours' haha...

Anyway, if there is no collateral damage (cracked board) & I only loose 1 channel it will wait until the rugrats are gone before I go in there.
