  • Peavey 5150- low volume issue

Hey, I'm new here, and I could really use some help.

Here's the problem: my 5150 head is having a volume issue. When I turn it up past 2, it is a LOT quieter than it should be, and has absolutely no bass response. As I increase the volume, it does get louder, but it sounds like it's about half as powerful as it should be. I replaced my power tubes, thinking this would solve the problem, and it didn't. I also noticed that not all of the tubes glow at the same intensity. Is this a problem? Again, I'm very new at this. All I know is that my amp is performing considerably quieter than it should, with no bass at all. Please help!

When you say glow are you talking blue glow or orange glow. The tubes should light up with their heaters glowing orange but when pushed out of idle start pulling curent and glow more blue which is normal. Try patching a cord from the send jack to the return and see if the volume comes back.

they were glowing orange at first, then blue, but my concern was that two out of the 4 were glowing at a lower intensity. not incredibly noticeably or anything, but when i looked closely it caught my attention. ill try the effects loop trick- hope to god it works.

      any other advice?
