In trying to clear my shop, and get some value from the dead items here, i have resurrected a bunch of things I never thought would run again. Sunday after this coming, there is a Music Instrument show her in Lansing, and I will have some stuff there to sell, along with several friends. Not sure who else will be there, I suspect a couple of the local music stores will go.
ANyway, I have this Alesis WIldfire 60, 1x12 combo. Powr amp and speaker work, but the preamp is one of these digital deals. An input op amp stage feeds an ADC/DAC. Digitally, stuff happens. The DAC spits out signal to an op amp stage with master volume and on to the power amp. Got good power supply, +5 and +3.3. The two clocks are running, and the main processor is not stuck in reset. The two digit display is stuck on 88 with decimal points. IOW all segments on. The restore factory settings function doesn't happen.
WHile poking around, for one shining moment, I did something and all of a sudden sound came out, and the display had toggled over to 99. But the selector control had no effect, nor did the tone controls - which run through the digital. But that went away. I have been unable to replicate that by anything physical.
In any case, I can;t dwell on this as a project. I could replace the preamp with something more conventional, but that would take time and money I don't want to put into it. I could sell it as is for some project minded soul to use. Hey, plug a pod or something into the FX return and there you go.
But just in case, if anyone has a Alesis WIldfire series preamp board set they want to get rid of cheap, I am open. Maybe yours is blown up power amp and speaker. Can't hurt to ask.
Or if you are near Lansing, I;ll make you a real good deal on a "powered speaker" combo.
