  • Pro Reverb buzz

I have a vintage 1968 Pro Reverb. Anu guitar plugged into it will buzz as if the guitar has a bad or missing bridge ground. None of these guitars buzz in any other amps. I can touch any ground on the guitar and the buzz is reduced to a more than tolerable level. Past experience tells me the guitar is the problem but none of these guitars buzz in any other amps. The amp is almost silent with nothing plugged into it. I've reflowed and cleaned all the grounds including input jacks with no improvement. Any help/advice is appreciated.

Hot chassis? Does the Pro have a grounded AC cord?

Also, plug in your lead and check the continuity between the plug ground and chassis just to be sure that's OK.

Have you checked the input switching jacks? I'd clip a lead to chassis and touch it to the unplugged jacks hot leads to see how that effected things.
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! The amp did have a 3 conductor ac cord but I replaced it anyway as it was chewed up and wired incorrectly. I checked continuity between the input jack sleeve and main ac ground and read .6 ohms. Same reading from any other grounds as well. Both switching jacks have been replaced in the reverb channel as one was staying open with no guitar plugged in. For what it's worth, the buzzing anomaly occurs in both the reverb and normal channels.

Have a close look at the 5 or so ground wires coming off the board to the chassis under the controls.

              All look solid and intact.
