  • Cap Across PT Secondaries

Got this Orange amp here with a 10n cap across the HV secondaries. The cap failed, and the amp is obviously fine without it, but customer would like it replaced. Can I use a 3kV ceramic disc cap like : https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/75-564R30GAS10
or does it need to be a safety cap, like : https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/871-B81123C1103M

Also, why is that cap even there, and if it is so helpful, why don't all amps have them?

The cap is over rectifier to suprime switching transients as main purpose, I think. Look over x/y class type suppressor cap..? , non shorting type Just my 2cents...

Most high voltage disc type capacitors are OK in that position.
The purpose is to smooth out transients but they are not very useful.

If you can't fix it, I probably can.
