I've been using different types to hear what I like and mostly go with MM since I know I am getting a consistant good product but I have to say that I have heard some damn good Weber OTs.
The Weber had that nice warm tone to it that I don't see as much in the MMs. I usually have to tame the MMs to get the warmth. What should I be asking for from MM in an OT to get what I am looking for? I know that both companies don't use paper bobbins and I'm not worried about that and prefer the tape for longevity.
My only problem with the Weber is there not that consistant and I've seen bad ones right out the box and scoring on the widings. (after disection and having found that the OT was the problem)
What makes a Blackface OT so badass? I know MM uses the cheaper better IMHO iron but what do they do differnt with the windings?
I'm wanting to see about getting custom wound trannies for fender type amps I want to build with only the Vibrato channel so I need to get on the phone with Pat and talk to him about what I need PT and OT wise to do what I want to do but any info up front on your preferences on OT windings would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always.
