  • Marshall 1987X. customer says too loud

    Hi

I got a customer who has a marshall 1987x and he says its too loud. Would like to reduce the volume. .Wants the sound to break up earlier than it is. he also want to put a master volume pot in. He wants to avoid using a attenuator

My experience on moddin amps is a little limited

    Does anybody have any idea's

It's a loud amp. Not much will change that! For earlier breakup you could reduce (or disconnect) the negative feedback in the poweramp. This will screw with the presence control though. The best mod is probably to sell it and buy something quieter though

You want to install the PPIMV Mod, and Most put it on the back.

Here is the Instructions I used a couple of years ago.

I put it in my JCM 800 2204 Clone I built.
It has both the pre and post Master Volumes.
It works great, and I wouldn't want the amp without it.
You can turn it down to bedroom levels.
It does seem to make the Presence less effective, tell him that.
Overall I really like the mod.
          YMMV

If you want much gain turn it into a 2204 style pre amp (cascade channels). Much gain
If he only wants the amp to break up earlier reduce NFB or add a 0,68 cap on V2A cathode res. It helps a bit
