Fender Greta Tone Control Mod for Music Playing Purposes

I want to transfer the Greta chassis into another box and install a 5 or 6 inch full range speaker for a small kitchen music player...not guitar. But I am wondering about the tone control. Can someone tell me if this tone circuit cuts highs or lows for guitar? Is the a parts swap I can do to make this a table top music player? Thanks.

I'm not sure the tone control is the biggest hurdle to making that a table top reference amp. The distortion figure is probably high for such use. I wouldn't think the OT is up to the fidelity. There's no NFB to further reduce distortion and increase damping. The filters are somewhat low in value. This is pretty clearly a guitar amp from end to end. Using it for a table top music player is sort of like hauling hay in a VW beetle. Yes, it can be done, but there are better ways to do it. If you already have the other enclosure and speaker you might be better off building a more suitable amplifier from scratch. Well, as far as function anyway. Budget not withstanding since it seems you already have the Greta. Still... If it were my project I might sell the Greta and buy a small used Bose Wave or something. It'll sound a lot better and has a receiver and CD player built in.

The tone control affects the treble only. When the volume control is on any setting except 100% cw rotation rotating the tone knob from 5-10 will increase treble. The lower the volume the more pronounced the treble boost will be. From 0-5 it cuts treble regardless of the volume knob position.

i milled a recess into the back side of the front for the jensen speaker and had to remove some of the aluminum chassis to accomodate the magnet, i am using a amplitrex power tube and a gt 7025 pre AMP TUBE ACIDJAZZOK@AOL.COM

I ended up just putting the Greta in an old Philco radio and installing an 8" Jensen MOD speaker. No conversion for music, still just a guitar amp. It's a very light speaker because of the delicate mounting area in the radio. Sounds so much better.
