How did Duane Eddy hotrod his Magnatone

I read an interview with Duane Eddy a few years ago and in that interview he described how he hot-rodded his magnatone. This resulted in the sound heard on his early hits. He changed the speaker and did some electronic alterations. Does any body have anyknowledge of what improvements were to his magnatone and was it a 280 or a 260A. I'm particularly interested in what speaker changes he made
