Tubes for a bass amp

I just bought an italian tube bass top, and the man who sold it told me that I should concider buying new tubes. So my question is, what kind of tubes would fit? I don't know too much about tubes myself..

I think he meant get a fresh set of whatever kind are in it now. SO if it uses 6L6, then get a set of 6L6. You did not include any information about the amp, so I cannot be more specific.

If you open it up, the tubes should have their designations printed on them. Also, look for any sort of documention as well.
