Good afternoon guys.
One of my trusty SRM450V2 has decided to commit suicide, got a feeling it didn't like the singers rendition of hit me baby one more time.
Anyhow, it went pop and I could smell the magic smoke which is normally kept safe inside components to make them work had escaped.
I pulled the amp module and could see that there was a large burn on the PCB at the power supply end, R289 had exploded and all the surrounding components looked like something had shorted across them, burn had actually damaged the surface of the FR4. but not where there were any components or tracks, just odd.
It looks more like something metallic has fallen off the board and dropped onto the power supply area of the board causing a short.
Cleaned everything up and now it doesn't look half as bad, before I start going to in depth, I was wondering if anyone had seen this before, I have seen on eBay that there is one of these for sale with the same burn and damage in the exact same place item number 251602119525 , so was wondering if it is a common problem.
I cant find the photos I took before I cleaned off al the burns, but have attached a couple so you can see the PCB damage and what the flash did to the solder on some of the other components.
I'm not an electronic novice, spend my days repairing and modifying Radio equipment and car audio, have JBC hot air rework equipment and irons also have Frequency counter and generator, just thought I would try to save myself a few hours work if someone had seen this before.
Many Thanks
