World would be much better if much of the b*llsh*t we hear everyday were tested as honestly as they did.
Best of all, they werenīt even trying to test "I believe in XXXX, letīs see whether itīs true" but "donīt know what Iīll find, letīs test and post results, whatever they are"

Well, *if* that conclusion could be hammered into the hard skulls of *many* musicians, it would be well worth the effort

Don't be too quick to hop on "wasteful" university projects. Even if the result turns out to be "the most pleasing color to paint your refrigerator," the exercise teaches students to formulate a hypothesis, refine the question and research parameters, design the testing procedures and facilities, gather data, analyze the data, and form conclusions based upon the work.


Not unlike if I gave a student a dead circuit board I didn;t care about to let them learn how to solder. A waste of work and for that matter solder in one sense, but a valuable exercise for the student.

I should have been more concise.
The "what a waste of resources" wasn't aimed at the University.
It was aimed at the energy requirements to take nitrogen down to -300 degrees.
There is a specific gain in cryo as applied to machined components & such.
I just don't see the sense in deep freezing a trumpet.

Just because there is another side to this as it pertains to "us" as users of tubes... And since cryo treated tubes are sold every day...

It seems there was indeed a difference in timbre, I'll be it very minor. But this is a function of the rigidity of the substrait. Brass in this case, which does harden but doesn't show significant benefit structurally with cryo treatment as compared to austenitic steel. I only state this to strengthen the point I'm about to make.

While cryo treatment has been shown to improve the structural nature of some metals it has never been shown to offer gains in electrical characteristics. So why the hell are people cryogenically treating tubes??? I'll tell you why. Because people will buy them with no consideration for the facts. For the same reason they buy gold AC wall sockets to plug their audio equipement into!?!

That's really funny because your not the first to come up with such an idea. There was a company selling what looked to be ordinary chrome hologram rainbow tape decals. Supposedly if you stuck them on your speakers they would sound better. If you stuck them on your amplifier case it would sound better. You could even just stick them in the room somewhere and everything in the room would sound better.

So now I'm thinking of cryo treating my house. Though cryo treating ones head would be easier.
