XP can run pretty good with $10 security, like Panda internet security.
although panda has advertising, it keeps it pretty safe without MS updates.
I don't know if Kaspersky is supporting XP anymore.
I could use XP as is without the updates.
I shut the updates off 10 years ago.

With the Security benefits of Linux, running XP virtual Should be fire proof.
I've read that this is going to be a real popular way to make XP safer, and not cost anything!
