With Windows 7 expiring this month, many people are considering looking at linux instead of Windows 10.
Here's a list of some machines you can get with it pre-installed (sorry about the slide-show thing)

I like the looks of the second one listed by tedmich, in silver.
If you're into linux like me?
Buy it with the minimum m.2 sata 128gb drive.
Take the 128gb out and park it, and replace with a 1tb m.2 NVME high speed drive.
You could still get out for around $650-700.
Would be a fun rig, with gen 10 i7, lots of speed and features!
**Since I limit my laptop purchasing to once a year, so If something is available like this next black friday, I may have to take a bite!

No big thing, I just meant now I am getting ads for Best Buy lap tops instead of ads for credit cards or whatever.

and now my click bait on the home page is full of Best Buy ASUS touch screen ads
I don't know what that is, or how click bait works.
I have an adblocker enabled most of the time, and run Ubuntu.

I just got done taking the new computer a part.
It has an empty slot for a 2.5 inch SATA HDD or SDD.
The NVME slot has the small 256gb drive.
It has an empty slot for another 8gb Ram.
I plan on ordering a new Samsung 970 EVO nvme 1tb, for Linux, and another 8gb of DDR4 Ram.
That way I can shelve the 256gb with the win10 on it.
If for some unforeseen reason I need to reinstall it, it will be as new unscathed.

I got my black friday laptop special, today at Best buy.
    I bought this one.
    Intel i5, 8gb ram, 256gb nvme SSD.
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-in...?skuId=6373812
I've never owned a Dell before.
It will eventually replace my blue hp, with a wounded keyboard, and bad fan, in my Living Room.
    Laptop hardware is changing fast.
Hard to find one with the SATA HD, like in the past.
Most come with smaller NVME 256gb SSD drives now.
They don't want to put LAN RJ45 jacks on all of them anymore.
This one does have the Lan JK access.
The Windows 10, is harder to defeat now.
The bios is harder to get to.
I figured out how to get in bios, and how to defeat the Raid drive.
I will try to take it a part next to see what drive slots are available?
Win 10, still gets pissed with a hard power cycle.
This one seems to have a lot of possibilities.

Getting closer to another Black Friday!
I try to find a super deal on a bargain Laptop every year.
I buy one and usually retire one.
I take the oldest Laptop and either retire, or give it away to a grandchild or other family member.
If defective, I part the laptop out, and scrap the rest.
The 2017 i5 gen-8, 8 core is one of my favorite to date.
So I will be looking for Laptop bargains, between now and then!
    All suggestions welcome.

I have the new i7 HP Laptop all loaded and operational.
It is very fast and quiet.
It is lighter than my other laptops, it has no Optical drive.
I never use it, I do everything with usb sticks.
They cheapened up the laptops by putting everything inside the snap together case.
To Access the Ram, Hard drive, and even the battery, it is all inside.
    The i7 is a 7th gen 7500U 4 core processor. (discontinued model)
The newer more expensive i7 gen 8 processor, is the newer 8 core type. (current models)
Maybe I can get a deal on one of those Gen8's next year!
Here's a few screenshots, that look just like my other Ubuntu linux laptops.

    Black Friday Today!

    I bought this one.
    The one I'm interested in:
    HP 15.6 inch touch screen
    i7 processor, 8gb Ram, 1TB Hard Drive
    $449, it had been $800
I took the existing hard drive out and stored the win 10 drive, in case I need to put it back for a bios updating, or something unknown?
I put in another like new 1TB drive, that came out of the one I bought last year. I formatted and put linux on it.
It all set up and loaded pretty quickly.
I spent off and on 4 hours trying to get the wifi network to work.
Wifi wouldn't work with any live linux, I put on it. That included the Ubuntu's and I also tried live Fedora.
Finally figured out what realtek wifi adapter driver was missing and it took a while but I finally installed it.
The Realtek RTL8821CE Wifi hardware, it's driver is not currently included in the Linux kernel, so it had to be manually loaded.
Drivers are harder to install in linux, but doable!
This is going to be a fine addition to the laptop stable!
    Santa came early!

**Also bought a deluxe wireless logitech m510 mouse, on sale for $15, regular price was $40.
Haven't broke it out of the package yet.

After making a trip to local Best Buy, and Office Depot?
Office Depot seemed to have the best sales right now.
I looked at the Dells, and they seemed cheap, and fit and finish is not great.
They also don't have that good of reviews.
    I liked the HPs better.
They have a Acer Swift 3 that I really liked the looks of.
All aluminum case, only 3.75 lbs, $499.99.
    https://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...op-156-Screen/
    15.6 inch HD screen
    8th gen i5 processor
    8gb ram
16gm of optane memory (a new feature which is between ram and sata hard drive, it speeds of the hard drive seek time)
    1tb sata hard drive

    I'm still looking.

According to the ad, it has HD screen.
As far as external ports, it has the standard laptop ports.
    3 usb
    1 hdmi
    1 network
    1 SD camera card slot
    1 speaker jk
    1 charging slot
1 Internal 2-1/2 sata 1 tb hard drive
    1 internal SSD m.2 drive 128gb
    No optical drive
    No mic jk
    no modem jk

I always modify my stuff and install linux, I take off the MS Windows.
I'm going to check it out tomorrow at the local office depot.
I used to always buy laptops with optical drives.
Now days I never use them, and they just add weight and take up internal space.
However, I really do use the usb3 thumb drives.
I still use the SD camera media drive, for my trail camera media.
This laptop has to be disassembled like my HP laptops, to do anything with the ram or internal drives.
Take all the screws out the back, then you have to unsnap it from the top.
I miss the days of the removable doors on the rear of the laptop.
