  • A Telecaster wiring question for the electronics buffs

I'm happy with the sound of my Tele with a 250k pot/.047mfd cap tone control when it's wide open - it tames the treble just the right amount.

I swapped the cap for .015mfd recently for the woman tone thing - sounds great wound off but when it's wide open the pickups are too shrill (i.e. I need the .047mfd cap)

Without using both and adding a switch to select between the 2 caps is there an easy solution?

With the .015mfd tone cap in place I thought about adding a .033mfd cap through a 270k resistor to ground from the input lug of the volume pot to make up the difference but I'm not sure what effect if any this would have on the tone knob's response. I've tried to get my head round the mathematics of it (caps in parallel with a variable resistance on one etc.) but am getting nowhere.

BTW I realize that the easiest way would be to put it to the test but I use my amps on full volume (Super Reverb and/or 4x10 Bassman) and can't turn them up enough here indoors ...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
