  • Fender Jaguar - which one to buy?

I have a nice dilemna and this is probably not the place to ask about it but...

I'm gassing for yet another surfin' axe. I have an '89 US Strat which I love and I am keeping, but I have always wanted a Jag and I have my sights on either one of these:

MIM classic - thicker neck in cherry (love the price) FENDER CLASSIC PLAYER JAGUAR SPECIAL - CANDY APPLE RED - Guitars | NZ Rockshop

MIJ '66 classic (love the retro looking sunburst and block inlays) FENDER (JAPAN) JAGUAR W/BLOCK INLAY - SUNBURST - Guitars | NZ Rockshop

Does anyone have any views they care to share on MIM vs MIJ? (I don't know if I could afford the Johnny Marr sig model when ever that is going to come out BTW, although that looks terrific)

So any advice/comment is much appreciated.

    TIA

The retro look of the MIJ '66 classic does it for me!

You own any Jags Tom? The further I dig into this the more confused I get. I am on holiday away from home this week nd I got a call from the local geetar shop back in Wellington to say that they have both the MIM and MIJ guitars in stock for me to try when I get back, but now I see there is a 50th anni Made in USA model now which is based on the MIM classic player format (9.5" neck radius, close bridge and tail piece) which looks tasty and barely affordable (twice as much as the MIM). You'd figure, considering my nickname, that I'd already have one! Gotta fix that.

My wife is probably going to call you right after I buy this, TW, and give you an earful for knocking me off the 12 step guitarholics program.

            Tubswell,
I never owned a Jag. My interest is purly nostaljic. When I was first getting into electric guitar the Jag was the top of the line Fender guitar so I always lusted after it. My first good guitar was a Jazzmaster which sadly was lifted from the back seat of the family car.
            Regards,
            Tom
