After shoving toothpicks with glue into stripped out screw holes for decades I thought I would get real perfession'l and buy some dowels at Ace Hardware. Drill out the hole a bit and glue in the dowel- you are ready to roll! Unfortunately the dowels they sell at Ace is a very soft wood and it will strip out if you overtighten the screws at all. Hell, my damned toothpicks worked better than that!
I'm replacing a pickup/bridge/tailpiece plate on the 50's Fender Dual Professional* I'm piecing together from two corpses and the screw holes are off just a little bit. I looked at my crapwood dowels from Ace and wondered if I could get some hardwood dowels so I called Rockler. Yes!!!
