  • Lead Wire for single coils

Hi, curious what people use for single coil lead wire. I'm thinking of getting some 22gauge stranded, cloth-covered wire, however I cannot find any.

They have the best price for 4/C wire too! I used to them being slightly higher than everyone else for certain stuff.

I went looking at electronic suppliers like Mouser, et al, and Stew-mac was still cheaper!

        Very surprising.

I have no patients with that cloth wire, it unravels and looks messy and it's hard to strip. It's also way too big if you have a lot of other wiring happening in a small cavity. I really like the teflon insulated 19 strand awg24. I have 1000 foot spools in white and black. I did get an Ideal wire-stripper to go with it and that makes life a lot easier.

The classic way to strip cloth-insulated wire in production is with a thermal stripper, where a pair of red-hot nichrome blades burn their way through the insulation.

There are mechanical bladed strippers made expressly for teflon, and after using one you will never go back.

              ....

I love that wire, you bend it to shape and it stays that way, its great for using in amps for that reason for lead dress.

I agree. I guess they keep using it because it's vintage looking. You would think Fender would be using coax by now.

I love teflon wire. I used some Alpha teflon wire I had for like 30 years, but when I ran low the price of a new roll was too high, so I went with some regular 24 AWG Belden wire.

Well that sure has nothing to do with pickup wire...

The same guy posted three different posts in three different areas of the forum for this web site:

                            http://www.empvisualsolutions.com/

It was very market speak, talking about an uncertain future in tech and they have the answers or some such crap.

I should have quoted it in my reply.

I reported the post as spam.

                              Thermal Wire Stripper

I just got a used Stripall TWC-1 thermal wire stripper at a hamfest for $25. (They cost about $370 new.)

It does a very nice job on teflon wire, and I bet it will do nicely on cloth-covered wire as well. I think a lot of these strippers are coming up for small dollars as electronic assemblers go belly up.

                              http://www.teledyneinterconnect.com/.../wirestrip.asp

By the way, the patent is US 3,143,635.
