"Gibson" cream - screw side bobbins

Weren't the actual Gibson orginal PAF bobbins actually WHITE? They just got cremey from age, or maybe being in smoky bars? I had a guitar player show me a white pickguard he'd installed a year or two earlier and showed me areas that had been covered that were pure white, the rest was creme. Cigarette smoke had tinted the whole thing a nice creme color. God only knows what the poor guy's lungs looked like. Fortunately in Oregon on January 1st. cigarettes will no longer be allowed in bars, probably save thousand of bar tenders and waitresses lives.....

Yes, they were an off white. They weren't DiMarzio cream.

I have a DiMarzio Super Distortion from the 70's, and the cream didn't go with the white pickguard on the guitar, so I painted it white with some epoxy enamel spray paint. I think the double cream is ugly. Beige is not a favorite color of mine.

It looks good and hasn't chipped after all these years.

I feel like an idiot for not thinking of this! Thanks for the tip... I normally don't care about the shade of the cream, but I wanted this particular set to match.

It's much easier to get some standard nylon bushings. Already drilled. Availiable at Lowes or Ace.

I just ordered a 100 pack of these...looks like a good solution for a once and a while problem! I will let you know how they work out...looks like they will be "Plug and Play".

Little tip: Make sure you rough up the nylon with sandpaper and then glue them in the holes with superglue.

OK. I have completed this repair successfully and I am sure that no one will be able to tell that I used nylon sleeves in a slug side cream bobbin!

When they arrived, I was a little freaked out that the screw slides right through the inner diameter, but when you press and glue it into the bobbin the sleeve gets pinched just enough to give you just the right amount of reistance on the screws. These sleeves are a must have in a pinch...I ordered a bag of 100 ($8) and they will probably last me forever since each one can be cut to fill 3 holes (Each piece is 1" long).
