Spence I was talking mostly about the big makers like Duncan, go look at his Broadcaster, its a total joke, I don't think there is one authentic thing about it except that its a tele pickup :-) I did search around when I came up with mine, one guy Don told me had trademarked the "blackguard" name so looked at his version, it was all wrong too and his trademark was never paid for and has expired. Fender's is wrong too, gee isn't that a surprise :-) Haven't seen yours but I'm sure you're doing them right, you need to do some promotion over here in the US, Vintage Guitar Magazine's ads are pretty cheap and usually pay for themselves.....

If you could give some specifics...

That would be the Fred Stuart's Black Guard Tele pickups. His track record as a Custom Shop luthier is substantial even if his trademark application died. Dissing Stuart is like dissing John Suhr: you need the facts on your side or folks like me (BFD) won't believe your criticisms even while we believe your passion for making good pickups.

Dave, would you give us some specific differences? I don't mean that you should give up the particulars of magnets sizes and winding patterns (i.e., the trade secrets), only a few facts instead of a denunciation.

"Det var helt Texas" is written Nowegian meaning "that's totally Texas." When spoken, it means "that's crazy."

I'm only going on memory here but I am pretty sure his pickups weren't accurate, its been four years since I went through all that stuff and don't care to revisit it, if you want to know how to make an accurate copy buy the BlackGuard Tele book, they are still for sale and will probably never be reprinted, plus you help some good causes, the money goes to charity. It is the most indepth tele book ever made if you like the BlackGuard era. Also, he never finalized to have the name trademarked, he only sent in provisional applications and never finalized owning the blackguard name, so feel free to use it if you want, look it up, it was expired when I saw it. You can see he did this several times, owning the name temporarily until the provisional status ran out. I'm sorry I don't think any pickup makers living are "god," I"m not "dissing" anybody.....the only guy who I thought really was innovative and an amazing designer was Harry DeArmond who is little known and way under appreciated, a genius. Seth Lover had one good pickup, the guy who invented the P90 did some great work, those guys did work that is timeless. Leo's work stands but basically not all that super inventive or unique.

In my opinion, if you make pickups should own this book, here is a link, I got one of the first ones #66 and I ain't selling it:
