which coil hotter in PAFs?

Slug side for me. It sounds more open and hollow to my ears. I found overwinding the screw side can be kinda harsh on a bridge pickup and muddy on the neck given the standard orientation of the coils in each position. I believe that an overwound slug side being closer to the bridge on a neck pickup makes it less muddy for a neck pickup and visa versa for a bridge pickup.

Ok, flipping the neck pu had an effect of making the tone a little brighter and still muddy on the low strings. So I took off winds from 4.07/4.27 screw/slug to 3.7/3.9 and the mud is gone. Clear bass notes now and some more treble too. I have the cover off because the stock one is magnetic and I think that cuts some treble. I'm looking for a VOS cover to replace it.

I like Humbuckers without covers, but if I use them, I use the Mojo Nickle covers.
Also if you use covers, I've had better luck with the magnets at full charge.
Seems like you get less muddiness, & loss with good hot magnets, through the metal covers.

Seems to me if you wind the neck pickup with more "screw" coil +offset, you get the typical "Since I've Been Loving You" tone. Winding the bridge pickup with the "screw" +offset you get a more harmonic tone (EVH / Gibbons) than if you wind the slug coil more +offset where you get a more Jimmy Page tone (much less/no chirping harmonics)

But then you knew that I'm sure, didn't you Possum? having done all that "testing" you have posted about over the years. Actually surprised when I saw this post.

Why do you always have an axe to grind with Possum Brad? What has he done to set you off besides come up with something that people like? Is it just jealousy that drives you to attack him all the time? It gets annoying to others to see it all the time when we all come here to learn and share. Possum has provided a lot of useful info over the years to people here, even though he rightfully refuses to share all of his secrets that he has learned over time and experimentation.
