  • dimarzio 36th anniversary pickups?

I know these are new but I have heard some great stuff about the sound. Anybody here heard them? I am seriously thinking of getting a couple to split coil them in place of my 490's in my gibson SG.

    ....

They are a funny product. Larry loves his old LP so decided to reproduce the pickups. Well he didn't reproduce the pickups, he did another "air gap" design probably the same design as his original PAF type pickup in the 70's. There is little resemblance to a real PAF. I bought one of the 70's ones off Ebay and thought it was one of the most mediocre pickups I've ever played. He usually puts his patent number on his website so you can check out what he did. Maybe they are different, I just know they have never made anything approaching a true PAF reproduction pickup ever, their stuff is very cheaply made, find a used one and save some money if you want to try one....

These are like the Virtual PAF's I talked about in another thread.

My buddy swears by them and put them in most of his Les Pauls. (and he has like 30 Les Pauls) The ones I heard sounded good in his guitars.

Possum is right, they are not made like a PAF at all, and are airbuckers.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
