Can a coil be wrapped around a bar magnet with little risk of breaking?

    Or could be any European of far eastern cheappo guitar pickup from the sixties and seventies. I've got several like it that look all bucker on the outside and are really single coil built just like that. Axes are us sell a toaster style pickup advertised as a bucker and thats a single as well.

      That was helpful, thanks. A kind of pickup I have not seen before.

      Did a Google on Kay pickups as Greg suggested and found some details about it. The SD "Pig 90" appears to be that kind of pickup. Llike you described ... the magetic field from the magnet is extended through the base and directed to the strings by the pole screws. Kind of a mini-humbucker missing the pole-screw coil ... really a single coil with wide magnetic aperture.
