Very nice work. The cutting looks easy enough.
How do you bend the side edges so straight and crisp.
Do you have a sheet metal brake, or some other trick you have?

Thanks Terry, thats what the steel plate on the pdf is for, it fits perfectly within the bend lines with some material to support the other side, clamp it in a vice and belt it with a mallet.

The plate fits on one side to bend the sides, the other side to bend the ends and it keeps everything nice and straight.

Oh and I have a question regarding the Stewmac Humbucker kits.

I ordered a couple last week but neglected to find out if they have different leg lengths to suit Les Paul bridge and neck position.

Are they generic to do both? I think I saw a post where David Schwab mentioned he'd used some.

          Thanks in advance.

I have used several of the StewMac Kits also.
All parts of a good quality.
The Baseplate is pretty close to a PAF type Baseplate.
It has Long legs. I prefer a medium leg length.
The long leg type doesn't fit too well on some shallower routed guitars.
Now I order my parts loose, and get a little bit of parts from different places.
            Mojo also now offers kits.

Wow I've never visited MOJO's, thanks for the tip Terry, his stuff is like 30% cheaper than Stewmacs.

I wonder what their quality and shipping rates to Aus are like.

I've been getting a lot of stuff from Mojo lately for custom orders. Their laser cut flatwork is very nice.

Thanks David, I would agree that they do look to be off good quality, but unfortunately their shipping charges to Aus are a little steep at $56 minimum.

Thats the problem with living in sleepy hollow, even our own local suppliers charge outrageous postage fees and up their prices because they know we can't get stuff any where else. And they don't offer local pick up so were screwed either way.

                  BUT I'M NOT BITTER

                  kindest regards

                    Humbucker Bobbin pole spacings

                    Humbucker Bobbin pole spacings.

OK so now I'm really confused , and I can almost hear you guys ROFLYAO at me as I'm writing this but that's OK, I don't mind being the comedy relief LOL.

As you see from my previous post, I've taken to making my own humbucker base plates, but I found that some of my bobbins from old pickups don't quite fit my 50mm hole spacing, some are 49.2mm some are 53 ish mm.

NO BODY TOLD ME THEY CAME IN DIFFERENT SIZES!!!! Gee I feel sheepish.

                    So, why the different sizes?

Is it to allow the strings to lay central to the coil slugs in both the bridge and neck position?

Is there any one standard size that is most widely used?

What size were the first vintage humbuckers?

Ive done some research but haven't found all the answers to the why why why, and I could spend days researching the history of the hum bucker.

                    Thanks in advance,

                    regards to all

                    Walt.

49.2 is the original PAF Thing.
Most vintage Gibson Humbuckers are 49.2 neck and bridge.
The 50mm is the import answer to the 49.2 gibson size.
The 53s are for bridge or Tremelo spacing.
When in doubt go to all the part sources and see what is available.
I mainly use 50mm for everything.
If you are doing rewinding on small hobby scale like I do.
I mainly buy the threaded bobbins.
If I need a slug bobbin I have been known to just drill out the threaded bobbin with my drill press.
Only takes a minute, and I don't have to stock so many different parts.
That may not be ideal, or Politically correct, but that's what I do sometimes.
                      Good Luck,
                      Rock On!
