I have a boatload of 44 because I was going to use it for a project, but didn't end up using it.
What is your real life experience with the sound of the thinner wires all else things equal?

I have been making my tele neck pickups out of 43 heavy formvar with alnico 2 poles at 6800 winds of pretty high tension and they sound awful good. I'd like to play with thinner wire with less winds and a bit shorter bobbin and see how it sounds.

With bass pickups, I often like to use 42 for the neck and 43 for the bridge. The thinner wire accentuates the midrange.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Nothing to gluing Cocobolo, just wipe with a little alcohol or acetone 15 minutes before gluing, takes out the surface oils and makes the glue penetrate like it was maple.

Yep, that's what I said back in post #8.
