Dave I hope your place does not strip the zinc off the screws and then nickel plate then and send the same screws back to you except now with rounded edges.
Stripping zinc with acid is OK, and it didn't cause the difference between the good screw and the bad screw. You can tell by looking at the bottom of the slot, where one has cutting marks and the other has only edge-chip marks from wear on the forming die. Also, the threads survived - enough acid etching and tumbling to round the head would completely remove the threads.

Some Chinese screws can be pretty bad, but if you visit a few factories you can very quickly get a feel for the quality. Taiwanese and Japanese joint venture factories put out the best stuff, not suprisingly.

No Chinese factory would every consider Wolfes new acquisitions a fillister head though! That is a just nightmare!

To the guys who suggested a lawyer, that would be the wrong way to go. Why burn your bridges? After all the supplier can supply the right screw, and probably will in the future, so keep it friendly, return the items and improvise like Wolfe has in the mean time! Only when a supplier fails to rectify the situation can legal recourse be sought. We are talking months, or years down the line.
