  • good matching jazz bridge pickup for p-bass

    Hi all,

my first post after some time. I'm an old ampage guy, so I'm happy to give my greetings to all ampagers here.

I want to add a J-style pickup to my P-bass.
In my experience, all the p+j basses I tested had a thin-sounding, bridge PU in comparison to the hotter (and mid heavier) sounding P-pickup.
This is not a complaint about J-basses (I love them very much), but only a search for a more balanced hybrid instrument.

So I want to make a split J bridge (to have it humbucker), a little overwounded to obtain better matching in the p-j combo, in parallel wiring and soloed, also. I want it hotter, but not so much to loose the "classic" bridge jazz tone, if possible.
All advices are welcome, about turns number etc.
    thanks all

    Marco
