  • How are folks digging Sens mag these days?

Ive been using various companies for a while now. Using Arnold at the moment, pretty pricey and I just did a comparison between them and some sens mag pickups I had made with samples... I think I may be trying a sens mag order soon.

I thought AZ industries sounded pretty good but they wanted as much as Arnold for their Chinese material at quantity.

      ....

500? I bet you paid through the nose for such a small amount? $40 money transfer + $80 EMS. What did the magnets cost? I don't usually order big batches anymore so those extra fees scare me off...
I've used Arnold for some strat mags and bought a bunch of A2 bucker mags from them five years ago. Of all the magnets I have I have never found a good use for the A2 buckr mags, they just sound weird and not in such a good way. The strat mags are A5 but very soft sounding, those pickups don't sell very well at all probably because they are a bit too vintage sounding for most. I tried Jon non-oriented Arnold's they sound good but not enough to justify the pricing for me. Sensmag does make some good stuff but their rough cast A5 bucker mags are too thin, like .117" thick and way too edgy sounding. The best and most consistent I've gotten and use are from Magnetic Hold, good prices, fantastic service without any attitude, Shea is the man!

I see. Yes I love dealing with Shea. I just figured since his mags were .50 cents a peice, and only certain sizes, I might as well order some to the specs I want, and at sens I can get them for .13" cents or so before EMS and wire.

I do like how Shea's sound though. Thats why I tried Arnold - at the quantity I was getting, they were about 60 cents a3 and 70 cents a5, not much more than what I already paid so... I gave em a shot. Not really better sounding though, just different.

Maybe I'll ask Shea if he can order some custom sized slugs for me? Hmmm

The other problem I had was about 200 mags of A5 that just wouldnt charge... he gave me all the money back for them though! Didnt request them back or anything... Shea's very good.

Of course Shea does custom orders. He did a big bunch of rough cast magnets for me and Gundry that are out of this world....

That is funny that you mentioned that. I thought that I was going crazy. I received a 125 A5 brick and they won't charge in the range of A5 Bucker mags either. They must of been from the same batch as yours. Thanks for letting us know. I will be contacting Shea about this. They've been laying around for about a year.

Do you remember how long ago that was?

To answer your question, they provide great customer service and a great product. As Dave mentioned, wiring payment which cost $30 and the shipping charges are the only drawbacks. Unfortunately, I had to take time to go the my bank and have them wire the money. I asked Kitty, who I work with, whether they plan to use Paypal or other payment method and she pretty much stated that they're not.

I got a couple of unoriented A5 samples and was impressed. Will place an order soon.

Otherwise I exclusively use Magnetic Hold. Yes they very much do custom orders. It's rare when Shea has turned me down on a custom dimension request. Just wish they did A4...

Hey Kevin - sorry I didnt check back sooner.

Yea, some would charge a little, some not at all. Very odd. Lets see, that was about May 2009 I think I got that order? Something like last spring I think.

I just put in a big order(6000 pcs) with Shea - lets hope these charge up well!
