active pickups not working

I have a Peavey grind bxp with active pick ups. when plugged in I can get volume out of it for about 10 seconds, then goes dead. Anyone hear of a similar problem? I'm thinking about just bypassing the active components and hard wiring the pickups...

Sounds like a dead battery. Have you tried putting in a new one? And always use alkaline, not carbon zinc or "heavy duty" zinc chloride batteries.

If they are active pickups you can't bypass the active parts. If they are passive with a preamp, you can bypass that.

Hold on a sec... According to the manual http://www.peavey.com/assets/literat...03572640_5.pdf the Peavey web site Peavey.com and all other info those pickups are passive! And not a single word about active tone circuitry either! So what have you really got there?

That manual is not for a specific model, but on page 3 the first illustration shows active tone controls.

Having said that, I see no mention of active controls on any of the listings at online music stores.

Still, that symptom sounds like an almost dead battery.
