  • Charging Bar Magnets in Assembled Humbucker

I've searched and read a good deal on charging magnets with Neo's. It seems the best methods have been with two Neo's in a vice or metal loop so to speak, and passing the Alnico through the gap and so forth. Also using Neo's on one pole of the Alnico has been mentioned.

Well, these methods are great with the pickup in your hand. That leads me to this question. Is there any way to charge the magnets while they are installed in the guitar? It seems the One-Neo/One-Pole method would work on single coils great, but what about a humbucker?

I've come up with a method, but not sure what the effectiveness would be. I've posted a design with the magnets I have. Does this seem like it would work? What about touching the Neo's to the screws maybe in a single Neo magnet configuration?

    Thanks.

Two things come to mind in this

    1) Technically I dont think it would work because I dont think that poles can carry the charge nessesary to charge the bar magnet. Plus, those are big neos. Having them in that close proximity to the magnet is going to charge it vertically. However, assuming that it WOULD work, it would work better on the screw side because of the keeper bar, but the slug side has 6 individual points of contact which might mess it up. pure speculation on my part though. It doesnt look like an expensive rig to try so go for it!

    2) It seems like an awful lot of work for something that you can just loosen 4 screws by 1/2 turn and slide the magnet out, then put it back in..
