  • Potting/charging sequence

    Hi guys,

I just finished winding my tele neck/bridge pups.
I have my wax mix heating up and am wondering about the sequence for potting, charging, baseplate before or after potting/charging.

    Any suggestions?

I've done it before and after with no discernible difference in tone. I don't have a gaussmeter, so I have no empirical evidence other than my ears. It's easier after because the magnets are attracted to the heating elements and each other in the wax pot, which can be a bit annoying.

I always charge after I pot. My potting tank is metal and I previously had a problem with the magnets sticking to the side and getting too hot causing shorts.

Do you charge tele bridge pickups after you put the baseplate on, or before?

I used to charge with it on, then I went to putting the plate on after...

          Hi

I ended up charging after and also leaving the baseplate off as well.
I found that the heat generated from soldering the ground lead caused the baseplate to stick to the softened wax.

Yea thats what I do. A little wax in between and the heat of the solder works well. I never trust a bare baseplate anymore because they just dont fit the flatwork flat enough.

I usually charge the magnets even before assembly.
