I **HATE** allparts P-90 bobbins.

I'm making a batch of 100 and i've spent more time reaming the holes, and scaping off the excess plastic from a crappy injection molder than I spend actually winding the darn things. Damn it if the korean onces were the right size I'd drop these in a hearbeat. grr. I'll be so thankfull when stewmacs new P-90 bobbin is out. I saw one from the first run and it was useable right out of the gate.

It's a lot of work if you're doing 100 at a time for sure but for the weekend warrior, they're the best available.

When are Stew Mac launching theirs?

If your going the way of having paf buti bobbins done, then isn't it small step to get your 90s molded as well. Those you could market.

I'm pretty sure either I or Belwar will do a mold for P-90 bobbins. I already gave a vintage P-90 bobbin and a vintage mini humbucker to the molder to copy. The most economical mold will be a two part mold with one half for the P-90 bobbin and the other for the mini hum bobbin with a gate to shut either half off. I would probably have the P-90 bobbins made out of styrene. I would be open to selling them. When they will be done is the big question mark. The molder is very slow. We only got everything dialed for the butyrate this week and that project has been going on for months. He is a great molder but not the most organized.

Have you tried GJ? or Mojo?


I know that AP and GJ bobbins were different. One of them had a larger core. I can't remember which one...I'll have to check when I get home from work and into the shop.

Also one was smooth and the other had a slight texture.

I like the Allparts bobbins, they sure sound a lot better than those rubbery GJ's I used to use. Most of them are clean but once in a while I do get some that have the burrs and the excess plastic from the mold leaks. I'm used to having to ream polepiece and mount screw holes and doing a just a little general whittlin' on P90 and humbucker bobbins anyway so it doesn't bother me.
