Hello everyone.
I've been in touch with a local wire supplier called OTS wire to try to help some of you and get around the typical issues with getting wire from MWS or Wirenetics or what have you. I've been given a price quote for different wire types and decided to post it here in case any of you would like to get wire. I've met the owner (Ralph Cuppoletti) of this wire company several times and he's a standup guy and has a desire to do good business for his customers. There are a couple qualifiers I'd like to point out however.
1. The quotes are at least a month old and in the case of PE two months old, so the pricing may have changed slightly. (Sorry about that but I get busy sometimes and it took me a bit to get around to posting this.)
2. They do not have anything in stock at the current time as far as the wire sizes that pickup winders typically use. They are willing to stock the wire, but due to minimums that they have with the manufacturer (In this case it is REA), they would have to buy a case at a time, and the buyer would have to agree to purchase all of that wire in whatever dimension the wire is within a year's time. A case is typically about 30 pounds, although if the manufacturer has none in stock at the time of order for PE, then it is a 50 pound minimum order they have to make.
3. I'm sure they would be fine with group buys if that works for all of you. If everyone wanted to do a group buy and different spools would have to be shipped all over the place, that could get complicated. Since they are local, I don't mind helping out on that account, and acting as a sort of local clearing house, but I won't do it for free, since it would be taking my time and effort. If anyone wants to go this route then let me know and we can work something out pretty easily, or you can discuss a group buy among yourselves and talk to OTS yourselves about different shipping and payment arrangements.
Here are the quotes...I don't know if the pricing is very good or not.
Pricing on Plain Wire
size #42 (.063), price was $22.21 + copper.
#43 (.055) was $28.60 + copper.
#44 no stock at the time of quote
Pricing on Nysol enamel (155 degrees) wire,
#42 (.063) was $13.00 + copper.
#43 (.055) was $16.82 + copper.
#44 (.050) was $20.87 + copper.
pricing on Formvar.
#42 Hvy $30.72 + copper
#42 Single $22.30 + copper
#43 Hvy $37.17 + copper
#43 Single $29.72 + copper
#44 Hvy $44.56 + copper
#44 Single $37.55 + copper
They CAN do samples, and the samples are typically a 5 pound spool of a given wire type in #42, #43. #44 would be a 10 pound spool sample.
If they have the wire in stock, then they can usually ship out same day an order is received. They are located in Oregon, USA, and I can get the contact info for them if anyone needs it. I wanted to find out interest level first before I looked it up and posted that.
